We have the following facilities available at the Activity Centre:

We do have a small tuck shop within reception where you can buy fresh bean coffees, tea & soft drinks. We also sell crisps, chocolate bars, ice-creams (during summer only) & sweets.
During the summer season, fresh sandwiches are also available to buy.

Packed lunches & breakfast baguettes are available to order. These must be ordered no later than 72 hours prior to your activity date.

Packed Lunches @ £5.75 each, includes:

  • Large filled roll
  • Piece of homemade cake
  • Packet of crisps
  • Chocolate bar
  • Piece of fruit
  • Bottle of water

Breakfast Roll @ £4.25 each, Includes:

  • Bacon, Sausage & Fried Egg.
  • Vegetarian option available.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Rock Climbing, Gorge Walking & Caving take place away from the activity centre where there are no shops, cafes or pubs available. Please take this into consideration when preparing for your adventure day.

Full Day Gorge Walk & White Water Rafting – to prevent participants from getting cold we only have a short break mid-session. For these two activities we advise all participants to have a good hearty breakfast and to bring a few snacks with them i.e. chocolate bars, piece of fruit. If you wish to bring/order a packed lunch, these can be saved for the end of the session (when you will most need it). For further information please call us on 01497 847897.

Payment

No, we do not charge any extra fees for your activity day. The listed price is the price you pay.

We understand that you may not have a printer handy when you’re traveling so it is not necessary to have a printed copy. All we will need when you check-in at the activity centre is your name & booked activity.

Preparation

Wear clothing that is comfortable and suitable to sport activities outdoors. It is recommended to have a sturdy pair of broken-in trail shoes, hiking boots, or trainers. It is preferable to dress in layers and wear clothing that will wick away perspiration and keep you dry and comfortable. Yes, for safety and equipment purposes we do have a weight limit of 18 stone.

This is a guideline weight limit and will depend on the individual and the activity chosen. Please contact us for further advice. Please note, you may be asked for your height & weight.

Reservation

In the event of a cancellation of a member of the party or complete booking, the following charges apply:

14 days or more prior to activity date Loss of desposit only
Between 7 – 14 days prior to activity date Loss of 50% of activity fee
Between 2 – 7 days prior to activity date Loss of 75% of activity fee
Within 48 hours of the activity date Loss of full payment

Whilst every attempt is made to ensure that courses actually run, we reserve the right to vary or cancel any course if this should become necessary due to dangerous or unsuitable conditions beyond our control. In the most unlikely event of cancellations by Black Mountain Activities, an alternative activity or course date will be offered.

White water rafting is run on a natural river during the winter months only and rely fully on rainfall. If Black Mountain Activities are unable to raft because of unsuitable river conditions, your chosen alternative activity will take place.

White water kayaking/canoeing courses are dependent on minimum numbers and water levels. In the event of insufficient numbers or low water levels, kayak/canoe courses may be postponed or cancelled.

Packed lunches – Full payment is required for any cancellations made less than 24 hours prior to the activity date. 

In the event of a no show, the full balance will be taken using the card details given at the time of booking.

In order to guarantee you a space on one of our activities, we do require you to book and pay in advance. However, you can turn up on the day an join an activity if spaces are available.

Transport

Whilst we endeavour to provide transport to all our customers for activities taking place away from the activity centre, please be aware that this is a complimentary service and cannot be guaranteed. On the day of your activity you may be asked to follow the instructors in your own vehicles.

The Gorge Walking, Caving & Rock Climbing venues are located approximately a 40 minute drive from the activity centre. If you would prefer to meet our instructors at the activity venue (see locations below), please contact us no later than 24 hours prior to your activity date to make arrangements.

  • Gorge Walking – Dinas Rock, Pontneddfechan, SA11 5NU
  • Caving – Porth-yr-Ogof, Cwm Porth Waterfall Centre, Ystradfellte, CF44 9JF
  • Rock Climbing – Morlais Quarry, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 2TS

Clay Pigeon Shooting takes place on a working farm, approx. 10-15 minute drive from the activity centre.

Weather

We do still run activities in the rain, snow, wind and any other weather conditions that nature decides to throw at us. After all, we’re going on adventures! If the weather is unsafe for any reason, the activity will be changed or postponed. You will be notified prior to arrival if there are changes due to weather.
