Full Day Outdoor Climbing Adventure in South Wales
Discover the excitement of rock climbing and abseiling in the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) on a naturally formed quarry rock face. Whether you’re looking for an unforgettable family adventure, a fun day out with friends or your first taste of outdoor climbing, this full-day experience is the perfect introduction.
Our qualified instructors will teach you the essential techniques of both climbing and abseiling in a supportive and encouraging environment. No previous experience is required – just a sense of adventure!
Location: Morlais Quarry, Merthyr Tydfil. You will meet directly at the location for this activity, rather than our activity centre (full directions, meet point & time will be provided upon booking).
🌿 WHAT TO EXPECT
Our Rock Climbing & Abseiling Taster Day is designed for beginners and those with little or no climbing experience. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Morlais Quarry, you’ll spend the day learning new skills, building confidence and enjoying one of the UK’s most rewarding outdoor activities.
With a variety of climbing routes available, our instructors can tailor the session to suit different ages, abilities and confidence levels, making it ideal for individuals, families and groups.
Rock Climbing
After being fitted with your helmet and harness, your instructor will introduce you to the fundamentals of climbing.
You’ll begin with traversing – moving sideways across the rock just above ground level. This fun warm-up develops balance, footwork and hand placement, giving you the confidence to progress onto vertical climbs.
As the day unfolds, you’ll challenge yourself on a selection of real rock routes, reaching heights you never thought possible while enjoying spectacular views across South Wales.
Abseiling
Once you’ve conquered the climb, it’s time for the descent!
Your instructor will introduce you to the exciting world of abseiling, teaching you how to safely descend the rock face using specialist equipment. Starting with gentle guidance, you’ll soon gain the confidence to take bigger, smoother steps down the cliff.
For those wanting an extra challenge, why not try a forward-facing abseil?

Rock Climbing is available as a full day session only (4-5 hours), times specified below. Please also be aware that times include check-in, kit-up and 40 minute travel to/from the climb location.

All our activity sessions take place outdoors where conditions may be wet, cold & muddy. Please consider this prior to arrival, preparing yourself with appropriate clothing for the outdoors.
