Suitable for adults and young people aged 12+, our kayaking experiences take place on sheltered water and are ideal for individuals, friends, families, school groups and outdoor enthusiasts looking to start their paddlesport journey.

🌿 WHAT TO EXPECT

Our kayaking sessions are designed to help you progress at your own pace in a relaxed and supportive environment. You’ll learn the fundamentals of paddling, develop confidence on the water, and enjoy exploring the beautiful waterways of the Brecon Beacons.

During your session, you’ll be introduced to:

Safe use and fitting of kayaking equipment
Launching and landing techniques
Forward and backward paddling
Turning, stopping and steering
Basic river awareness and navigation
Confidence-building games and practical coaching

All specialist equipment is included, and your instructor will tailor the session to the group’s experience and ability.

We had a fantastic time doing both the gorge walking and kayaking. Alastair was a super instructor, lots of fun, supportive and kept the kids engaged throughout. Highly recommend will definitely be back the next time we are visiting Brecon Beacons!

  I had a great time canoeing/kayaking with the family. The canal route was pretty calm and quiet and is appropriate for beginners.
The staff at Black Mountain Adventure were all so friendly and nice from check-in, induction and pick-up.

We visited and hired kayaks for half a day, we were given a route to follow, as we were not familiar with the area was really helpful as opposed to just trying to find a route. The entire team were all very helpful, informative and genuinely interested in what we had been up to. They gave us all the advice and safety info we needed and helped us all into our kayaks. The journey was just perfect, gave enough time to take a calm pace so we could take in all the sights, such as the wildlife and the canal boats.  recommends THIS PLACE IS A MUST-GO! AND WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!

Yesterday we tried out Black Mountain Adventures, kayaking down the River Wye. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with a warm, friendly smile (sadly we didn’t catch her name, but she was fab!). She talked us through everything clearly and gave us loads of useful information before we set off.

Next, we were greeted by Mick and his team, who kitted us out with wetsuits and explained everything in detail. Big shout-out as well to the other guys working alongside Mick – everyone was fantastic. At the starting point, Mick went through everything again and instantly put us at ease. You can tell how much passion he has for his job – it really shines through!

We booked this as a unique and adventurous date day, and it was absolutely perfect. We both loved it and are already planning our next trip back!

Kayaking is available as either a half day session (2 hours). Times for each session are specified below however, finishing times may vary depending on group size. Please also be aware that times include check-in & kit-up.

MINIMUM AGE	12 years (Children must be accompanied by an adult)
SESSION TIMES (Arrivals to Farewells)	Half Day Morning – 09:15m to 12:30pm Half Day Afternoon – 12:15pm to 4:30pm
ARRIVAL POINT	All customers are to arrive at the Black Mountain Adventure Centre at the specified session time on your confirmation.
