The 4 Star award is a leadership award and is not suitable to beginners. you should have at least a 3 star white water award and the appropriate skill levels. Duration:

White Water Spec Kayak.
Pre-requisites First aid award (minimum 8 hours with CRP).
Evidence is required of 12 different river trips of about 4 hours duration in four different locations, this should include 6 grade 3 river trips as a member of a group, 6 grade 2-3 river trips as an assistant leader.
White Water Safety & Rescue Training.
Candidates must be 16 years and over at time of assessment
Venue Suitable rivers with grade 2-3 water
Part A- Personal Paddling Skills Lifting, carrying and launching, efficient & effective river running skills, rolling, and surfing small waves and running stoppers.
Part C- Safety, Leadership & Group Skills
Skilful application of leadership, leadership strategies, judgment & decision making, safety awareness and risk management, group control
Part B-Rescue Skills Boat and bank based safety and rescue, incident management and first aid, effective team leader and rescue/incidents
Part D- Theory
Equipment, safety, weather, hypothermia/first aid, access, environment, planning, group awareness & management, water features/hazards, navigation, etiquette, leadership responsibilities

About the day!
Times 9.15am to 4.30pm each day
Arrive at our center where you will be introduced to your qualified and professional instructor for the day and the equipment you will be using during course.
Once kited up, your instructor will talk you through the days events, covering the type of craft, paddles, and general equipment.
Once on the water we will cover the BCU syllabus Lifting/Carrying of craft:-looking at safe moving and handling techniques best practice.. Forward Paddling:- Competent and confidence on moving water. Breaking In/Out:- Effective skills needed to break in/out Ferry Gliding: - including reverse ferry gliding Surfing Small Waves:- Experience surfing small waves looking at edge, body trim.
Paddle into and out of small stopper:- Understanding the advantage of using a dynamic edge, posture and active core.
Draw Strokes on the Move:- practicing draw stroke on the move. Supporting:- Looking at supporting strokes on moving water. Rolling: Rolling:- on moving water. Rescue Skills:- Capsize Swim, throw line rescue, basic first aid incidents, team and part of a team leadership Safety, leadership & Group Skills:- Identify hazards, identifying stable lines, being a team player, good rescue positions, signals, and communication, locations personal risk management & awareness of others. Theory:- Covering all aspects of canoe safety, weather, equipment hypothermia, first aid, assess, environment, planning, group awareness, navigation and etiquette and leadership responsibilities
These Fun Days are great to mix with our other activities such as High Level Ropes, Climbing Tower, Canoeing, Clay Shooting, Archery Orienteering etc
